Can I receive my Economic Impact Payment if I didn’t file in 2020?

Yes you can.  You have until at least April 15, 2021 to file your 2019 income taxes and still receive the Economic Impact Payment most Americans received in June 2020.

If you do not normally file your taxes, you may use the non-filer tool on the IRS website:  https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here   Many pension plans, IRA plans and most employers withhold money from the funds you receive.  You may be entitled to more than the Economic Impact Payment if you file your 2019 taxes.  Information from the Taxpayer Opportunity Network states that up to 25% or filers missed refundable credit opportunities in 2017.

If you did not file your taxes in 2020, but normally do file, you may visit any VITA, AARP, Freefile.com, or use paid tax software or tax services to file your 2019 taxes.  Most paid options are available year round.  Volunteer services typically start in February, but may be limited by COVID-19.
