MakeChange NoCo * is a Northern Colorado provider for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. Under the direction of the Internal Revenue Service, these nationwide programs are designed to help low- and moderate-income taxpayers complete their annual tax returns at no cost. Our volunteers are trained and re-certified in tax law every year, using IRS-provided materials and standard tests.
We collaborate with VITA Loveland and the VITA/TCE programs in Loveland.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to provide year-round, free tax return preparation and education for low- and middle-income families, individuals and seniors. Our tax preparation and education services help the financially vulnerable avoid predatory service providers, while helping them improve their knowledge and personal financial capabilities. We’re an all-volunteer organization – all funding goes directly to help those in our community.
Community Impact:
In Northern Colorado, during the 2018-19 tax season, in collaboration with VITA Loveland, we interacted with over 5,000 clients seeking help with taxes. We prepared more than 7,700 federal and state returns, saving taxpayers an estimated $1.2 million in preparation fees and helping them claim $6.7 million in federal and state refunds and tax credits. The estimated economic impact is more than $13 million.
Through the “Working Families Thrive” Community Impact Partnership, under the leadership of United Way of Larimer County, we collaborate with our partner agencies to provide comprehensive services and education for families working to achieve financial self-sufficiency.
